Crossing of the Volturno

October 18-26, 1943 – The 100th led the way across the Volturno River twice before moving on to help capture San Angelo d’Alife as well as Hill 529.  Their triumph was marred by the many casualties they suffered, as well as the ordering of LTC Turner to a hospital for extended rest.
