The Americans of Japanese Ancestry World War II Memorial Alliance in partnership with Japanese Americans Living Legacy (JALL), two southern California based organizations, has compiled a listing by date of the soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team killed in combat in Italy and France during World War II. The dates and names have been inserted into copy extracted from “Ambassadors in Arms: The Story of Hawaii’s 100th Battalion” by Dr. Thomas Murphy and 442nd regimental journals. The University of Hawaii gave JALL permission to use copy from the book as long as it was used for educational purposes.
Dr. Murphy was a University of Hawaii professor and director of the University’s Hawaii War Records Depository during World War II. The two senior officers of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Farrant Turner and Major James Lovell were eager to have the story of the 100th recorded and persuaded him to write a book. It was published in 1954.
